From the top of this sculptural base cascades a fountain of long, slender, slightly curling leaves, giving it that signature "ponytail" look.

A Brief History of the Ponytail Palm
The Ponytail Palm has a fascinating history that stretches back millions of years. Native to the arid and semi-arid regions of eastern Mexico, particularly the states of Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, and Veracruz th,e Beaucarnea recurvata has evolved over millennia to survive in some of the harshest conditions on earth.
It was first formally described by the French botanist Jean-Baptiste Louis Pierre in the 19th century, and named in honour of the Belgian horticulturist Jean-Baptiste Beaucarne, who was known for his extensive plant collection. The species name recurvata refers to the recurving, arching nature of its long leaves.
In its natural habitat, the Ponytail Palm can grow to an impressive 9 metres tall and live for hundreds of years, with some specimens are believed to be over 350 years old. Its swollen trunk base, known as a caudex, evolved as a water storage system to help it survive prolonged droughts, making it one of nature's most resilient plants.
